![]() ![]() The issue, as I understand it, is that GIMP's development is currently in a bit of a rut. I'm a graphic designer with a minimum of programming understanding. I've been using GIMP professionally for a few years. Tl dr: If you're unhappy with Gimp, why not fix it? So, why hasn't someone started work on P.I.M.P. None of them know anyone who programs? None of them are capable of organizing an effort to gather programmers to code the changes? Seriously, why hasn't anybody worked on this? One of the beauties of the Open Source model is that anything can be changed, and if the project owners won't do it, you can fork it! "Aaah, but /u/micah1_8," you say, "these guys are artists, not programmers!" If I learned anything from watching GI Joe as a kid, it's that "Knowing is half the battle." So, it should just be a matter of going in and correcting the "flaws." Right? Here's what I don't understand: If Gimp is Open Source, why don't some of these people who think the UI is clunky and obtrusive just get together and make it better? I'm sure if you asked any one of them "what's wrong with the interface?" they'd have a laundry list of things that are ugly/broken/backward. Recently, in a thread over on /r/linux, the all-to-common theme of "Gimp's UI sucks!" came up. I'm also pretty sure the reverse is true. I'm sure Photoshop does some things Gimp just simply cannot do. Second, in the interest of full disclosure, I have only used Photoshop a handful of times. r/FreeCAD FOSS Parametrical CAD/CAM /r/scribus Desktop Publishing Darktable FOSS tool for photographersįirst, let me say that I use the Gimp extensively in my bookcover work for a professional author. ![]() r/gmic FOSS image processing framework /r/inkscape Vector-based graphic editor /r/blender 3D modeling, animation, & rendering /r/mypaint painting for digital painters /r/darktable/ photo editing software /r/krita digital painting application /r/synfig FOSS 2D Animation /r/FOSSPhotography Folks who use all the above /r/libredesign changing the paradigm Other Links of Interest Outreach through well written tutorials, presentation etc.Help test and triage bugs in the bugtracker.Alexander Prokoudine - /u/prokoudine ( LibreArts Founder) ( patreon) Ways to Assist GIMP.YouTube Channel spamming will not be tolerated. ![]() CSS help provided by /u/Cheesydude All about the GNU Image Manipulation Program ![]()
